The astronauts develop eye diseases
Scientists have known that spaceflight reduces visual acuity, therefore, they are seeking methods of reducing their negative influence. The specialists of NASA and the University of Houston had already conducted studies using optical techniques coherence tomography Spectralis®.
This technology is used for examination of astronauts in weightlessness for a long period of time, i.e. for measuring intraocular pressure, determining the change in visual acuity, retinal and optic nerve structure.
On the basis of data already available, the conclusion is: the most common are pathologies like the stretching of the optic nerve, scotoma, hyperopic shift, choroidal folds, flattening of the eyeball, tension, and edema of the optic nerve, adoptable spots.
To obtain effective ways of dealing with ocular diseases of astronauts flying long-term missions, it is necessary, according to the authors of the study, to explore them before the flight, during the execution of it, and also for returning astronauts to Earth.
