You see ghosts in the mirror because of the phenomenon of Troxler

In horror films is quite popular this scene: a person looks in the mirror and sees his reflection behind a ghost or a monster unknown.

If you're a few minutes to look closely in the mirror, your own brain could "show" something like that.

This optical illusion is due to the phenomenon of Troxler - when you're concentrating on something to see, the brain begins to "weed out" relatively fixed retinal image areas, which can lead to a significant distortion of the image.

The researchers set up an experiment, which consisted in the fact that volunteers while peering at his reflection, and then sometimes noted that they face "distorted", and some have started to see their parents, animals and imaginary creatures.

If you happen to something similar, do not panic: you have not gone crazy, so over you "jokes" visual perception.
