Sich was a military fortification, inside of which was a church, outbuildings and residential premises - smoking, to which were attributed Sich Cossacks during military training.

History of the Cossacks - a constant war with the Turkish sultan, the Crimean khan, gentry Poland and the Russian Empire. It is the Zaporizhzhya Sich in 1648 raised the banner of the liberation war of Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky.
According to researchers in the history of Zaporizhzhya Cossacks existed Siches 8, which were located mainly in the lower reaches of the Dnieper, with the rapids, and there were 5 to 40 years each. Total Zaporizhzhya Sich lasted about two and a half centuries.
