A unique and frightening Church in Rome

Kapucinska Church of Santa Maria della Concezione can be called the most intimidating, obscurantist and unique place in Rome.









It is believed that in this place you can make contact with the souls of the dead. Inside the walls of the Church decorated with bones of about four thousand dead monks Kapuzinerhof. Even the candle holders are made from bone.









Santa Maria della Concezione (Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini) is small in size and is located on via Veneto in Rome, close to Palazzo Barberini and Triton fountain. The Church was designed by Antonio casoni in 1626-31. she is Decorated with paintings painted by Guido Reni (Archangel Michael), Caravaggio (St. Francisco), Pietro da Cortona and Domenichino. In the Church contains several altars with the relics of Catholic saints.









After the Church was finished, in its crypt moved the bones of monks who were buried with 1528 in 1870, in the old cemetery of the Capuchin order, located near the Trevi fountain. Gradually their remains decorated all six rooms of the crypt. In one of the halls of the crypts you can see the skeleton of Princess Barberini, niece of Pope Sixtus V, who died as a child. The design of the crypts in the spirit of the Baroque was the inspiration for the Sedlec ossuary.
