The biggest airport in the world in Istanbul
Since Turkey is quickly becoming more popular from the point of view of tourism, it is not surprising that its airports receive a number of upgrades. All this is done in order to keep up with the ever-increasing flow of tourists who want to admire the wonders of the unique country. In 2012, approximately 35 million foreign tourists visited Turkey, because Turkish Airlines has decided to expand its network and become one of the largest and most important airlines in the world.
As Istanbul is one of the largest and most impressive cities of Turkey, it is logical that the largest airport building in the world should be built here. When the terminal is built, it can pass not less than 150 million passengers per year. This means that it will definitely surpass the famous Grand Terminal 3 in Dubai. It is planned to finish in 2019, the new airport of Istanbul called Terminal One is developed by a team of Nordic Office of Architecture and architects from Grimshaw and Haptic Architects.
The whole structure of the new airport will cover about 247 acres square, to be built at a distance of about 20 miles from Istanbul, right on the coast of the Black sea. As expected, such a large and important event will be completed in several stages, but if things go according to plan, the terminal will partially operational by 2018 and by that time will be able to serve 90 million travelers per year.
