Mokón is a waterfall of the reck, 3 km (3 km) valley.

Iguazu Falls may be the most popular in Argentina, but Mocona is definitely the most unique. It is not a traditional waterfall with a classic trajectory like most others. Mokona falls along the river, the waters of which fall into the gorge for three kilometers. It is quite possible that it is the only waterfall in the world located parallel to the river, rather than perpendicular.

Mocona Falls, also known as Yucuma, is located on the Uruguay River, in the Argentine province of Mizaiones. It is 337 kilometers from the city of Posadasa and 322 kilometers from Iguazu. The Uruguay River is also a natural border between Argentina and Brazil. The name Mocona means “to swallow everything” in the Guarani language and is used mainly in Argentina. The name Yukuma translates as “big waterfall” and is popular in Brazil.
An unusual feature of the Uruguay River is the presence of a flooded canyon at the base of the river channel. The canyon formed during the Ice Age, when the climate was drier and the river narrower. The canyon 100 meters deep is 15 – 30% of the width of the river. It is visible in two places, one of which is the waterfall Mokona.

The waterfall is hidden for 150 days a year when the river is full. When the water level falls below the edge of the canyon, the water begins to overflow and a waterfall forms. Depending on the volume of water in the Uruguay River, the height of the waterfall varies from five to seven meters. The width of the waterfall also depends on the volume of water, ranging from 1,800 to 3,000 meters.

The Mokona area is considered a provincial park, part of the Yaboti Biosphere Reserve. Throughout the territory there are tourist lodges, where travelers stay. Fans of active water sports such as rafting, canoeing and kayaking come here. Be sure to go on a safari along the numerous streams in these wetlands.
