The Commission will expand the use of free software
The European Commission has published a updated strategy for the internal use of free software . This organization and so actively implementing open source software in various sectors of IT within their own structures, but now the value of Open Source will grow even more.
The new strategy makes a special emphasis on the choice of open source software with tenders, to participate in free projects and publish more source code under a free license of that which is created in most of the European Commission.
With respect to participation in tenders, officials require to apply the principle of equality. This means that free and proprietary software projects should be considered on an equivalent basis. In both cases, accounting accepted only objective parameters: total cost of ownership, including the cost of failure of the software.
On participation in community projects stated that the Committee of the European Commission will step up its activities and help the community to develop software that uses the very same European Commission.
In addition, developers departments will be trained and receive advice on legal issues, how to work with copyleft. In other words, they will know exactly what is the use of such a code should publish their programs and also under a free license.
