As you know, 27 February this year there was a trouble with Curiosity: short circuit in some section of the manipulator. All this time, NASA engineers studied the problem, trying to figure out where it happened a short circuit, and how dangerous it is for the entire system. At present, the study and analysis of the causes of failure is still ongoing, but the arm has returned to work.
March 11 manipulator rover spent sifting operation of the sample rock with delivery of the sample on board for further study using a scientific instrument CheMin. The sample was taken when drilling one well on the "hill Pahrump" exit rocks at Mount Sharp. Now, when the sample is in the right place, the rover team is going to send a rover to another region, Curiosity will go with "The Hills."
It is worth noting that all of two weeks, while there was a study of the accident, the sample was suspended in the manipulator. Now scientists are delighted that the powder rock in the right place, and the mission will continue. By the way, it may well be that a short circuit has occurred in the engine drills, and now scientists are trying to understand the potential impact of the problem.
In the next few days, the rover will go to the hill of Mount Sharp in the area, which is called «Artist's Drive».
