A team of international researchers analysed 60,000 pregnancies in several regions of the world: USA, Brazil, India, China, UK, Oman, Kenya. Previously it was assumed that racial and ethnic identity, are largely responsible for the size of newborn children, in different populations and countries. The new results show that race and ethnicity are not major factors. Much more important than education, health, nutrition, maternal and medical care during pregnancy.

The researchers conducted ultrasound of early pregnancy to delivery to measure the bone growth of babies in the womb, using identical methods in all countries and the same ultrasound machines from Philips Healthcare. They also measured the length and head circumference of all children at birth.
