New images of Pluto from the station New Horizons

The surface of the dwarf planet Pluto is becoming more различимой the photographs , thanks to a fairly rapid convergence of the probe New Horizons to Pluto. A series of images obtained tool Long Range Reconnaissance Imager (LORRI) from May 29 to June 2, shows us the complex structure of the planetoid, with bright and dark terraces, intermediate areas and other elements of the surface. Now any new picture of Pluto, made New Horizons, is probably the most high-quality in the history of observing the planetoid. By the way, recently the device photographed all satellites of Pluto .

Unfortunately, Pluto has more than 50 million kilometers, and for the average person on the planet pictures looks like a hazy blur. Specialists can extract useful data from such images. A new series of photos was processed in the graphic editor (method of treatment - deconvolution), resulting in some areas of the world have become more visible. The processing of the picture there were some artifacts, but they do not prevent scientists to study pictures of Pluto (in particular, Pluto seems not quite spherical, but deformed somewhat, although it is not).

Since April, the deconvolution method enabled researchers to identify a wide range of objects on Pluto's surface, including a bright area on one of the poles, which has already christened "polar cap". According to experts studying Pluto, the planet's surface is very different in structure, with many differing areas (at least, the brightness of a picture). Previously, some scientists thought Pluto - a relatively homogeneous body, but it is now clear that this is not so.

The station is located in the New Horizons 4, 7 billion kilometers from Earth and 39 million kilometers from Pluto (unit had flown more than 10 million. Kilometers moment pictures were taken). Now the spacecraft is in excellent condition, all systems are functioning normally. By the way, a gallery of photos of Pluto rough is here .
