Volcano Eyyafyadlayokyudl

Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland.

In every corner of the world has its own unique attractions, but if we talk about the beautiful northern country of Iceland and there with this role perfectly cope volcanoes. One of the most ivestnyh Icelandic volcanic craters is the peak with the unpronounceable name Eyyafyadlayokyudl (Eyjafjallajökull), which is located in the southern part of the country only 125 km from Reykjavik.

Most interesting is that in fact it was called Eyyafyadlayokyudl huge glacier, under which for the most part and is a volcano, and she is nameless hill, that is no official name has not. But because of the volcano and glacier almost always speak in tandem, then over time the press began to call them by the same word.

Glacier, under which there is a volcano, is the sixth largest in the whole of Iceland - an area of over 100 square kilometers. The very same volcanic crater has a width of about 3-4 kilometers, and up to an eruption in 2010, its opening was covered with ice. Eyyafyadlayokyudl refers to a variety of shield volcanoes with gentle slopes, and the height of its cone under the ice is 1660 meters.

Until recently was considered dormant volcano Eyyafyadlayokyudl - before his eruption occurred in 920, 1612 and the period from 1821 to 1823 but his sudden awakening of spring 2010 refuted this opinion - in April and May, the volcano frightened many local residents, emissions into the atmosphere a huge amount of ash. Because of this event for several days even been suspended flights across Europe.

Despite the danger posed by a volcanic eruption, this process looks really fascinating: columns of smoke, hot bright lava and self awareness of the power of the Earth's interior attract the eye of man, like a magnet. Therefore, among the locals and tourists always enough brave souls who want to take a picture of Eyyafyadlayokyudl in action - thanks to them we can see the enormity of the volcanic eruption in the photos.
