Asteroid 2012 DA14 successfully passed the Earth

On space standards, the asteroid appeared quite close to the Earth, but there was no threat of a collision. Scientists have calculated the trajectory of 2012 DA14, and any deviation from it asteroid had not committed.

NASA astronomers say that 2012 DA14 was the largest of all the pre-detected cosmic objects that have passed from the earth at the closest distance. This gave scientists an opportunity to study the asteroid from near-Earth space.

2012 DA14 found on 23 February 2012 in the Astronomical Observatory of Mallorca in Spain. Its diameter - about 44 meters, and the weight is estimated at 130 kilotons.

On the morning of February 15 on the Chelyabinsk meteorite exploded, resulting in about 1,200 people were injured. The meteorite is not affiliated with flown past Earth asteroid: these cosmic bodies came to our planet from different directions.
