NASA showed the soft robot concept for exploration of Jupiter's moon Europe

The American space Agency NASA is developing a robot to explore the icy waters of Jupiter's moon Europe. The new car will receive power from local magnetic fields. Soft robot-amphibian resembling an eel or squid, is part of NASA's innovative advanced concepts (Innovative Advanced Concepts, NIAC).

Robot to explore Europe will use innovative way of producing energy, as solar panels are unreliable resource. It will be equipped with a special antenna capable of extracting electric charges from the changing magnetic fields of the local environment.

The long-term goal is to study the satellites of gas giants, such as Europe, in particular, in the water regions for which no suitable conventional electric power system NASA said in a statement.

For the NIAC program, the Agency selected 15 different ideas, each of which is supported by the grant in the amount of $ 100,000. Preparation of techno-economic feasibility of concepts, the winners will take nine months. The most successful participants will open the second phase of the programme, which provides funding of $ 500,000 and two years of research.

Earlier this year, NASA has considered the possibility of sending in cold methane lakes and rivers of Titan (the largest moon of Saturn) unmanned submarines. Given the vast distance between Titan and Earth, the submarine will operate independently.

The NIAC program funds a variety of advanced concepts that have the potential to transform future space missions, to give them new qualities or to significantly modify existing approaches to launching, building and management of aerospace systems. Published
