American has built a unique autonomous vehicle
Bran Ferren inventor has developed a unique autonomous vehicle KiraVan able to get more than 3, 2 thousand kilometers without refueling. The car is named after the four year old daughter Ferret - Kira, with which 61-year-old American plans to go on a world tour in a jeep.
Only on the development of the machine was spent "several million dollars." The length and height of the six-wheel KiraVan, built on the chassis of a truck-terrain Mercedes-Benz Unimog, is nearly 9, 5 meters and more than three meters, respectively. Rover is equipped with a 260-strong "mersedesovsky" six-cylinder diesel engine and several fuel tanks, which totaled nearly 800 liters.
According to the developer, thanks to the special suspension KiraVan able to drive in virtually any terrain - from desert to the swamps and "climb" on obstacles with a slope of 45 degrees. It is possible to select two modes of transmission - with four or six wheels and capable of changing hydraulic clearance in a wide range.
Maximum cruising speed on the highway - 112 kilometers per hour (six-wheeled mode - no more than 50 kilometers per hour). Each wheel rover weighs 180 kilograms. Off-road 46-inch tires have Kevlar sidewall protecting tires from damage when traveling on rocky terrain. Special custom made seat, quenched shocks and vibrations arising from irregularities.
The machine is equipped with a private weather station, radio and video equipment, a few dozen cameras, laser, microwave, ultrasonic sensors, providing traveler information about their surroundings, and communication with the outside world. These are displayed on the display 11 (six of them - touch).
One of the monitors constantly shows real-time 3D-model of the car with the actual data on all devices and assemblies. All the many vehicle systems are monitored and controlled by two powerful computers.
Reconnoitering the road ahead for the inventor plans to use radio controlled aircraft with cameras. Furthermore, KiraVan equipped with a special compartment where the motorcycle is placed with turbo diesel engine. As planned by the designer, it can be useful for making short trips or in emergency situations.
In the back KiraVan, besides beds, there is a full kitchen with storage, which is enough stocks for two to three weeks for a family of three, and an area for meals. If necessary, the commission of more long trips terrain vehicle can be equipped with additional sections for storage of products.
