In Wiltshire, England, 120ft below the surface lies Burlington, better known as the "Cold War" City - 35 acres of underground complex, built in 1950 to house the conservative prime minister Harold Macmillan Cabinet and 4,000 civil servants in the event of a Soviet nuclear attack



«It was equipped with the second-largest telephone exchange in England and studio BBC, where the Prime Minister can make broadcasts that remained of the people. The system of underground power plants would be supplied with electricity 100,000 lamps that lit its streets and guided way pub modeled Red Lion in Whitehall.

"Spur railway was built in the tunnel on the main London to Bristol line, linking it to the bunker. It was designed for the evacuation of the royal family to leave London in the event of an attack.

"The very existence of the bunker was supposed to be top secret until it was decommissioned in 2004. Inside, it's like stepping back 50 years. Hundreds of swivel chairs are available in 1959 still unpacked. There are standard-issue box glass ashtrays, toilet brush sets and civil tea set. Pictures of the Queen, Princess Margaret and Grace Kelly are attached to the walls.
