In Ukraine there is a rare bird

According to the Ukrainian society for the protection of birds, this rare bird, native to the Palearctic, in the second half of the 20th century was an incredibly rare species on the territory of Ukraine.

"The return of white-headed duck is an incredibly important event for Ukraine because it shows that swamp our fully correspond to the international level," — says Oleg Dudkin Director Ukrainian society for the protection of birds.

 




Within 2 days of the study the coastal zone of the Azov-black sea region from the Danube to the Kerch Peninsula, experts identified records of all species of birds that winter in wetlands of the South of Ukraine, and fixed the negative factors that threaten birds and reservoirs, which are now their home. In addition to white-headed ducks, ornithologists have recorded such rare species as the red-breasted goose, cormorant, crested and Bewick's Swan.

According to the results of two days of observation it became known that the wetlands of South Ukraine in February, has retained its high value as habitat for waterfowl and shorebirds. Here he continued his wintering tens of thousands white-fronted geese, ducks, swans, herons, sandpipers, gulls, and among them there are such rare species as the white-headed duck and red-breasted goose.
