Physicists have created the most accurate thermometer

Scientists at the University of Adelaide has created the world's most precise thermometer at the moment.

According to published reports, physics the University of Adelaide were able to measure the temperature with a precision of 30 billionths of a degree.

Project leader Professor Andre Layten says: "We believe this is the best temperature measurement ever made at room temperature. We were able to measure temperature differences to 30 billionths of a degree per second. In order to highlight how it is precisely when we consider the temperature of an object we find that it is always fluctuating.

You know, if you look close enough, all the atoms in any material are always moving, but we actually see this unceasing fluctuation with our thermometer, showing that the microscopic world is always in motion".

Professor Layten says the researchers have developed a new technique that could be redesigned for ultra-sensitive measurements of other things such as pressure, humidity, force or searching for specific chemicals.

"Being able to measure different aspects of the environment with such a high degree of precision using small tools, you can revolutionize the technology used for various industrial and medical applications where detection of trace amounts has great importance".
