Beer flood occurred on Oct. 17, 1814 in the UK at the London parish of St. Giles (eng. St. Giles). In the brewery "Mo and the company" outside Tottenham Court Road, exploded the tank with beer volume of 610 000 liters, triggering a chain destruction of the remaining tanks in a building. As a result, almost 1, 5 million liters of beer spilled onto the streets. Beer wave destroyed two houses and broke through the wall of the pub «Tavistock Arms», filled up debris barmaid.

Brewery located among the homes of the poor in the slums of St. Giles, where whole families lived in the basement, quickly filled with beer. As a result, nine people were killed: eight petered out, one died of alcohol poisoning.

Relatives of some of the victims put their bodies on display in their homes and collected fees from the curious. During one of these demonstrations was such a big crowd that the floor could not resist and onlookers fell into the basement, still filled with beer.

The incident was considered in court, but the judge and jury had recognized the result of "higher powers", for which no one should be held responsible. The company found itself in a difficult financial situation that has arisen due to the loss of beer, with a significant part of the loss was paid taxes. However, the entrepreneurs through Parliament made reimbursement of tax payments, allowing them to save the company.
