Psychologist Michael Mrazek believes that the so-called "wandering mind" in many circumstances of life is not a problem, but sometimes there are situations when the solution of the problem requires full concentration. In order to understand whether it is possible to reduce the "wandering mind," Teach a man of awareness, and thereby enhance its effectiveness, researchers from the University of California at Santa Barbara, 48 students were divided into two groups randomly. One group listened to lectures on the practice of mindfulness and the other - about the benefits of healthy eating. In both classes of the lectures were experienced professionals in their fields.

A week before the start of training, both groups of students write the test: a test for the analysis of verbal information and working memory. During the writing test was measured by the level of "wandering mind».

A week after the end of the course, students are tested again. The results of the group to take a course on mindfulness and learn to consciously focus on the task, showed better results compared with the second group.

Thus, the study shows that some considered the same properties like the working memory can be improved by training. Scientists continue to work in this direction - they hope to get confirmation that awareness can help a person in matters of nutrition, sport, sleep, personal relationships, in the struggle with depression and stress.
