A new technology for obtaining graphene available

Dutch PhD Chinese origin Shu-Yong Zhu proposed a new method for producing millimeter fragments of graphene , surpassing the effectiveness of previously known methods. The cost of obtaining such a fragment is about € 1,000 (which is much cheaper than existing processes), while it is planned to reduce a thousand times over several years.

For graphene new method is applied on a copper sheet of a mixture of hydrogen, methane and argon at a temperature of 1000 degrees Celsius. As a result of the reaction, the catalyst which acts as copper, on a sheet remains pure carbon, crystallized in the structure of one atom thick. Applying a perpendicular magnetic field to the resulting graphene, was able to show that electrons can move freely in a fragment of the crystal along circular paths without scattering, which prove the purity of the material.

After receiving Novoselov and Geim Nobel Prize for the discovery of graphene in 2010, many look forward to applying this miracle material in a variety of industries - from the smartphone screen to the cable of a space elevator. However, although the first samples were obtained by scientists with just a pencil and adhesive tape, industrial scale production of graphene remain unattainable. Perhaps this is Comrade Zhu, who in 2011 won the prize in the "Mad Youth Idea" will thus guide graphene in the world of universal accessibility. Especially since he himself calls it his dream and goal : «I want to make graphene real and bring it in everyday life, in the products available to all. "
