Nokia and SEL introduced a new type of flexible OLED displays

Many companies are working to develop reliable flexible displays that could be used in many areas of industry and in consumer electronic devices. Bracelets with circular display phones are not afraid of falling, flexible panels for presentations - all this will be possible if any of the existing prototypes will enter the stage of industrial production.

Perhaps the day is at hand. A few days ago Semiconductor Energy Laboratory (SEL) and Nokia introduced its own version of this type of display on the academic conference on manufacturing techniques displays, SID 2014 (June 1-6, 2014, San Diego, USA).

Partners presented two types of displays. The first bent in half like a book. Second - bent in two places. Both prototypes are 5, 9 inch flexible OLED panels unfolded state. Resolution - 1280 * 720 pixels and 249, respectively.

In the manufacture of displays used WTC-structure where the combined light-emitting OLED and a color filter. All these layers are arranged between two insulating layers, such as a sandwich. Flex panels can be reused up to 100 thousand times, which is enough for any device.
