Instagram / @homedowntheshore Secret House Suzanne and Rich Gilson are a married couple from New Jersey. They are successful realtors who have been buying and selling real estate for many years. Not so long ago, they decided to renovate their home and the area adjacent to the house.
While cleaning the backyard, Americans found a wad of cash in the ground. The couple were shocked by this finding. The total amount of money was about 1,000 dollars. All bills were printed in 1934. They have been in the ground for almost 90 years!
Instagram/@homedowntheshore The stunning find was an occasion to learn a little more about the house they live in. This money was not hidden in the ground. The house with the secret is in Wildwood. It was built in the 20s of the last century. And it wasn't just someone's private home. It turned out to be a former brothel.
An incredible find in the backyard of Suzanne and Rich's home bought the property in 2018. A few months ago, they decided to update the appearance of their yard. The couple rented a mini excavator and got to work. Who would have thought it would be an archaeological dig?
Instagram/@homedowntheshore "At first I thought it was just weeds," the man recounts. He picked up the find and just threw it in a pile of other trash. But it turned out that these are tightly coiled banknotes. The former owner wrapped them in brown paper and fastened them with ropes.
It looked like small cigars. However, looking closely, Rich saw a green hue on the edge of unusual bars. "That's money!" thought the hero. He began to study the find carefully. Each of the bills was dated 1934. And that seemed very strange to the man.
“If you look in your pocket and look at each of the bills, it’s easy to make sure they’re all different years,” Rich says. As it turned out, 1 thousand dollars in 1934 is equivalent to 21 thousand modern dollars.
There is definitely some mystery in this find. Given that there used to be a brothel in this building, it's likely someone got the money illegally. And then I decided to hide them. However, the man did not manage to use them.
Instagram / @homedowntheshore By law, Suzanne and Rich Gilson can safely exchange the money found. But the couple do not want to do this, because the find is too unusual. And the value of such bills will only increase over the years. Why not inherit them from your children?
Money is associated with many signs and folk beliefs. For example, my colleague Bogdan Stasyuk told me where it is strictly forbidden to keep money if you do not want to become poor.
Unusual signs of wealth was shared by Dmitry Sidorov. He said that it is impossible to raise other people's money on the street. They say that then a person can lose all his earnings. But is this superstition about finding Suzanne and Rich?
Americans’ attitude toward money is actually different from ours. I am sure that the Gilson family does not believe that finding someone else’s money can have any impact on their financial well-being. I wonder what you think about that?
Tell me in the comments, what would you do in the place of the main characters of this story?
