Volkswagen Crafter van turned the electricity

Volkswagen has unveiled a prototype electric version of the van Crafter of the last generation — e-Crafter production version which, according to the Chairman of the Board of management of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Eckhard Scholz, will appear by 2017. The prototype was equipped with a motor that develops 100 kilowatts (135 horsepower) and 290 Nm of torque. The motor is powered by under-floor cargo compartment panels. The capacity of a battery consisting of 312 cells is 43 kilowatt-hours. The maximum speed of the van is 80 km per hour.

The automaker said that the design of the prototype were taken into account in the process of developing a battery that will be able to increase the reserve a van up to 400 miles.

Despite the fact that the batteries are located under the floor of the e-Crafter, cargo compartment model is identical to the trunk version of the model with the ice. With a length of 4855 mm height 1961 mm, and the width in the area of the wheel arches — 1380 millimeters. The compartment volume is 11.3 cubic meters. The maximum capacity of the electric vehicle is equal to 1709 kilograms.



Diesel version electric Crafter is characterized by a body color and shape of the led daytime running lights. The differences of the interior are the lack of a tachometer, a place which took the power meter, the blue stitching on the upholstery of the steering wheel and new seats.
