The bombing Murmansk in 1941-1944

Only 100 kilometers from the border with the Finnish region of Pechenga, Murmansk and its communications during the war were constantly subjected to Nazi air raids. The task of the Luftwaffe was to disrupt transport hub, providing the delivery of technology, weapons and materials under Lend-Lease. Only June 18, 1942 at Murmansk were dropped 12,000 bombs, the city burnt down more than 600 wooden buildings. Overall, from June 1941 to October 1944 the city was committed 792 air attack (8244 sorties). Cleared 200 thousand incendiary bombs and about 7000 high-explosive bombs weighing from 250 to 1000 kg. It destroyed or burned down more than 1,500 houses (75% of the housing), 437 industrial and office buildings (two-thirds of all industrial enterprises). Thus, the total number of bombs dropped on the city of Murmansk is second only to Stalingrad.
