Pregnant Doll

In the 18th and 19th centuries, these dolls were used for interludes known as misemono, which have been a popular form of entertainment for the sophisticated residents of Edo (present-day Tokyo). Sideshow shows viewers a myriad of educational and interesting scenes, created in order to cause a surprise and satisfy a deep curiosity of the mysteries of life in the viewer. One of the popular interludes was pregnant doll.
