Merheul - waterfalls in Abkhazia (22 photos)

We rested in the fall in Abkhazia, but the weather is not too much to ask is: the rain, the storm at sea. So often I had to go somewhere, so do not go crazy with boredom and idleness. One of the most exciting trips was a visit to the waterfalls near the village Merheul.

We lived in Gagra district, so had to go to Merheula long - past the New Athos, through dilapidated Sukhumi and inland mountains of the Sukhumi Military bumpy road leading to the Kodori Gorge. Increasingly across abandoned Armenian and Georgian homes.

Echoes of the war here is heard louder than somehow patched cities - razed to the ground the house, from which there was only a foundation, the whole house, but with empty eye sockets of windows - all seen through the lush thickets ... Going on a road, and you do not know where did you come.

Against the background of all this chaos suddenly it is seen expertly rebuilt directly above the mountain river cafe, to hear contemporary music and the smell of baked barbecue and khachapuri.

Our escort, Armenian, told the story of the creation of all of this complex. It is not known in what years (but probably after the war) with the Abkhazians, Armenians have started to work together to build these mostochki, verandochki and viewing platforms.

When the work was finished, the Abkhazians with the words "This is our land," and drove the Armenians began to single-handedly keep the cafe. And I must say, despite the bad roads, the people there always, and for travelers this place is practically inaccessible, often walk here local.

Meanwhile, our attendant mentions that a native village was Merheul ... Beria. And it does not fit in the head, in such a beautiful place could grow such a figure.
