The village Giethoorn in the Netherlands has a wonderful feature - are not moving by car or bus, just almost no roads here, only channels. Therefore, the main transport are boats, and the second name of the village - Dutch Venice. Hence, the unique atmosphere of peace, comfort and complete relaxation. Everything here breathes calm and unhurried pillar of the usual 18th century Dutch village.

Village history begins in 1230 when a group of refugees from the south of the country have found this place. The only thing they caught my eye - a huge number of goat horns, which remained strong after the flood. Therein lies the secret name of the village - Goat horns or «goat horns» .

























Over time, people not only changed the name of the village with more harmonious, but also found that there is full of peat. Pleased finding, residents dug peat in places where it was most convenient. As a result of the excavation pit appeared, then they become lakes, and then the chain of channels, which now attracts tourists like a magnet.









Houses in the village are mostly located on the islands and connected by wooden bridges, which here more than 50 pieces.

















Almost all the houses in the village of thatched - marshy areas provide residents with plenty of cane. Previously, only the rich could afford a tiled roof and many use a straw, now just the opposite, thatched roof is more expensive.















The village has gained wide popularity among tourists in the 60s after the Dutch director Bert Haanstra showed it in his film.
