Chiatura - the city cable car and manganese

Chiatura - the unique Georgian town in the western part of the country, called Imereti. The main source of the city is the local Chiatura mine for the extraction of manganese ores. The singularity of the city - its trucks.

The need to build the cable car there in the middle of the last century, when the volume of ore mining increased and the city began to grow.



In general, manganese is mined here since the end of the XIX-th century.



Unfortunately, since the collapse of the Soviet Union provincial Georgia gradually fell into disrepair.







Naturally, it affected the very cableway.



It still operates and connects the neighborhood to the city center Chiatura.









"Cable car" was created in the first place, for the delivery of workers to manganese mines and processing plant.





Today, the mines continue to operate.





Lift itself continues to deteriorate and her work only 17 cabins.





Park plans to upgrade and even purchased a couple of new cabins. But time is running faster.
