A restored version of the Umbrellas of Cherbourg will be shown in Cannes

The legendary film starring Catherine Deneuve will be shown in the Cannes Classics program, and the restoration will be financed by the French company LVMH, which includes such brands as Louis Vuitton, Givenchy and Guerlain. According to the head of the company, Bernard Arnault, residents of the city of Cherbourg, where the film unfolded according to the plot, also joined the financing.






Cannes Classics is a traditional program that screens updated and digitized versions of films that have become classics of world cinema. For example, last year, Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in America, Roberto Rossellini's Journey to Italy and Steven Spielberg's Jaws were honored with such an honor. At the 66th Cannes Film Festival, which will be held on the Cote d'Azur from May 15 to 26, two dozen restored films will be shown, including, in addition to "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg", there are "Cleopatra" by Joseph Mankiewicz, "Fedora" by Billy Wilder and "The Last Gladiator" by Bernardo Bertolucci in 3D.
