Outdated interior elements that spoil your apartment and scream of bad taste

Man in our time is lucky: we can communicate with other people from literally any continent. See their faces, the environment. Isn't this the very future that was spoken about in ancient myths and fairy tales? But, unfortunately, people themselves do not keep up with this future: they try to hold on to the past, to nostalgia and memories. They are turning their homes into who knows what. Not a house, but some kind of buying of antiques , honestly.

Domkovrolina Sometimes it happens that you come home to some nice girl. And everything is fine with her. Pretty, smart. Excellent sense of humor and ability to carry on a conversation. But as soon as you step outside the threshold, dust from old things fills your nostrils, and there’s nowhere to even throw your own things: all the free space is filled with whatever you can find. No freedom of action. So, after something like this, you sometimes stand and think to yourself. “And why did I just get involved with this young grandmother, I could do something useful, couldn’t I?”

Buying antiques A huge closet covering an entire wall Such cabinets, or one might even say, closet complexes, were extremely popular even under Soviet rule. In general, there were no alternatives. And because of their indestructibility, they still remain in some Khrushchev buildings or dachas. With them everything is clear without further ado. On the positive side, they really hold a huge amount of clothing and sleeping linen. That's probably all. No other advantages were noticed.

Several negative aspects can be mentioned at once. Let's start with the fact that such indoor structures really steal space. You can simply calculate the price of an apartment per square meter and compare. Appearance is also one big minus. In a modern home, an old wardrobe looks unnecessary. Well, just off the top of my head, a small detail: due to the fact that previously furniture was made according to standard, uniform patterns, the cabinets were always a little short of the “height” of the ceiling. And somehow it was necessary to use the free space.

Therefore, a pile of all sorts of things was usually collected on top, from leftover wallpaper to old tape recorders and audio record players. This is truly an antique. Any sane furniture store today can offer a bunch of alternative options. Just scroll through the catalog and choose something suitable for yourself. And that's the end of it.

Kitchen table and oilcloth Indeed, covering a kitchen table with oilcloth is often not the worst option in terms of practicality. Especially if the kitchen itself is small and there is simply nowhere to turn around in it. It’s easier to wipe the countertop with a cloth and the surface will be as good as new. But! From an aesthetic point of view, this is, of course, a complete failure. It’s not for nothing that people invented the tablecloth a long time ago. Of course, it must be changed and put into the washing machine from time to time. But the appearance will be completely different. A suitable monotone fabric will highlight the interior and create a neater impression.

Many people regret a beautiful table surface, especially if there are small children living in the house. Everything will fall on it: sauces, side dishes, meat, and so on. Somehow you have to maintain cleanliness in the end. And modern technologies also do not stand still. So, recently, another compromise solution has become available to us and it is called “liquid glass”. This is essentially the same oilcloth. But very thick and completely transparent. You order the size you need and simply cover the table with it. And that’s it, you can see the design of the tabletop, it is reliably protected under a layer of special plastic, and you can wipe it from dirt, just like a regular film. By the way, you can even cover a window sill inside an apartment with liquid glass. Very good and practical material.

Variegated motives Oh, wow, we still have a lot of this stuff left. Since the 90s. Yes, and from 2000xx too. Everything was colorful: the upholstery on the sofas, chandeliers, bedding, wallpaper and everything you could wish for. Various types of prints with cats, flowers, fish and other ornaments. Moreover, then no one even thought about how all this wealth could and should be combined. They simply bought everything they had to escape the grayness on the street. Well, that was the time. We do not judge anyone in any way. We simply advise you to look into the eyes of modernity.

Nowadays minimalism rules the roost. Ikea is the most famous and popular furniture and interiors store. Swedish minimalism is pleasing to the eye, simple and suitable for almost any home or apartment. No repeating patterns. No patina, gilding or too bright colors. Everything is as simple, accessible and concise as possible. The view has a place to stop and rest. And at the same time, one simply cannot dare to call this style too simple or dull. No, it is precisely original and emphasizing the taste. This has not happened for a long time, if we talk about goods for the mass consumer.

Neutral tones and natural materials add sophistication to any room. We must try to create an atmosphere that would be comfortable for every person. Believe me, even children sometimes get tired of a large number of multi-colored motifs in the children's room. The human nervous system is not iron-clad, and therefore it needs rest from time to time. Minimalism gives you this opportunity and does not overload your receptors.

Buying antiques: carpet This phenomenon in post-Soviet countries can justifiably be called widespread. To improve sound insulation or even for nostalgia, some people still have old, dusty synthetic carpets in their homes. Moreover, in size they can cover the floor even in a large, huge room. Or hang on the wall like a trophy from the past. One question, why? No, really. What is the function of a carpet in our time, when spaceships roam the expanses of the Universe?

And it would be nice if these were carpets made of natural thread. Which, by the way, cost quite a bit, but they carry some kind of chic that is invisible to the eye. But no, these cheap products, of which there are countless numbers, can be found in storage rooms, garages and sheds. Everywhere, collected “just in case” and no longer relevant at all. Why do people still continue to use them and do not want to keep up with the times? Apparently it's a habit. We simply cannot come up with other reasons.

What's the alternative? Yes, just re-lay the floor. Parquet will cost more. Laminate flooring today can be selected to suit almost any budget. And that’s it, the room or even the apartment will shine like a new coin. It will be clean, beautiful and elegant. Modern youth have even learned to make carpets on their own. Using a special device similar to a gun and a large number of threads. This is already creativity, which is not a sin to sell. Anything is better than a carpet that is older than these very young people. And you can choose the size for yourself. There are only advantages.

Things from the past Everything is clear here without further ado. Samovars, old dishes, soft toys and so on, so on, so on. Why is it needed? It just creates the overall atmosphere of the warehouse. You need to breathe deeply, and not the dust that settles on such dust collectors. There is, of course, a separate contingent of people-gatherers. To whom such “treasures” are dearer than anything in the world. But for the average person this is all detrimental. Take all the unnecessary riffraff to the basement for at least a few weeks and compare your feelings before and after. You will see, without unnecessary burden your life will only get better. Easier.

Peels Many who read this article will disagree with us. This is understandable. The feeling of collecting and thrifting is inherent in human minds for a reason. But if we are talking about the comfort and beauty of the interior. It was pleasant to come to your own apartment and not be ashamed to invite friends. It is better to make some concessions with conscience and reconsider old views. The future is now and it makes it clear that we all must be ready for change. And there is nothing wrong with that. Just take our word for it.
