Israel built the highest solar thermal power plant

Three years after Israel first announced plans to build a huge solar power plant, the project is actively developing. Ashalim solar thermal power plant with a capacity of 121 MW is under construction in the Sunny Negev desert and is the largest project on renewable energy of Israel today.

Solar thermal power plant should start to work roughly in 2018, and will include in its design a solar tower with a height of 820 feet( 250 m), which will be the tallest in the world. This solar project and other projects that are under construction, will give Israel a huge boost in achieving their goal — to reach generation 10% of the energy for its needs from renewable energy sources. By 2020, after completion of construction , the project will provide electricity to 130,000 households.

Ashalim solar project was originally planirovalos to be completed by the end of 2017, but according to the latest schedule shifted to 2018. Solar power has a field with more than 50,000 mirrors, which covers 740 acres(about 30 square km) and reflect solar energy back into the Central tower.

Solar thermal power plants (CSP) quickly becoming popular and based on them implements large-scale solar energy projects because of their high output power. After commissioning, the solar tower will generate about 310 megawatts of electricity, equivalent to about 1.6 per cent of the energy needs of Israel. published
