The term "misophone" was coined in 2001 by American neuroscientists, Paul and Margaret Yastrebovka to refer to a neurological disorder that is characterized by the extremely negative reaction of a person to certain sounds such as chewing, smacking lips, slurping, clicking a pen or typing on the keyboard. Hearing something from the above list, people suffering from misophone feel anger, anger and even uncontrollable rage. And speeding in their head, thoughts change from "is He doing this on purpose?!" "I'll kill him!"







In addition to the emotional manifestations in mysovoye there are quite distinct physical symptoms. People with this diagnosis may feel pressure in the head and chest, muscle tension, increased heart rate. Some metaphonical sounds-stimuli cause an increase in temperature of the body, others sweat, breathe and even feel pain, like the pain of bee stings.

Research conducted in northwestern University in Illinois showed that hypersensitivity to sound can be one of the hallmarks of creative thinking. In the course of a University experiment, which was attended by 97 people, it became clear that the ability to filter the sound signals at the creative people developed a much worse than average people.







One hundred percent effective treatments misophone not yet been developed, but easing of the symptoms currently uses a variety of exercises on relaxation and cognitive-behavioral therapy: patients are taught to combat the negative reaction they cause annoying sounds. In some cases, patients can prescribe antidepressants and drugs that reduce the level of anxiety.
