The high arch of Beijing

Beijing is famous for its experiments in the field of building construction, but of skyscrapers of this form have not been here. Recently introduced in operation building of China Central television (CCTV) is the result of a search for a new typology of skyscrapers, taken by the Dutch architectural office of OMA.

The CCTV headquarters located in Beijing. In close proximity to it are many and varied tall buildings. Architects OMAGH, designing the next skyscraper at the point of their greatest concentration, tried to develop a new three-dimensional typology as an alternative to the overexposed to the vertical towers. The result is something like a huge broken arch, which is well visible even from distant points. While true from a distance to assess its scale is almost impossible.

The two towers originate from a common platform. Gaining height, they are gradually inclined toward each other, as if under the influence of gravity, and finally merge into a single whole, United by a 75-metre console.

The facades of the television centre for the diagonal web steel profiles also look quite extravagant. In fact, they reflect the complex internal structure of the building: profiles are closely grouped in the points of greatest structural loads, and virtually absent where it is minimal. The integrity of the image formed glass panels silver gray color, harmonizing with the Beijing sky.

On 473 thousand sq m of the centre houses a television Studio, offices, industrial premises. Each tower holds a certain set of functions. For example, one of them arranged the rooms and offices of the editors in another area of news broadcasting.
In the main lobby atrium organized. There is a three-level underground space used for Parking and having direct connection with the network of the Beijing subway.
