Feldheim – the first energetically independent city in Germany

While Germany only works on that every year to increase the share of green energy in the energy sector of the country, a small German town Feldheim (Feldheim) have completely switched to renewable sources of electricity, becoming an example to the rest of the state, and the world in General.

Germany a few years ago, firmly decided to switch completely to renewable energy by 2050-th year. And, through a program, meticulously executes it, closing nuclear power plants and opening instead of giant solar and wind.

But residents of the small German town of Feldheim, located about sixty kilometers from Berlin, unable to look down on the efforts of their homeland. After all, their entire town have ALREADY switched to green energy, becoming completely independent from the energy system in Germany.

100 percent of the energy used by Feldheim, is directly generated in this town with windmills, solar panels and biogas.

Of course, the population of Feldheim had to spend considerably more to gain an independent energy system. For example, in 2010, every resident of this town was forced to pay 3 thousand Euro for the creation of Autonomous energy infrastructure. But now they get electricity 30 percent cheaper than the rest in Germany. And, given the quite significant energy prices in the country, saving this – very important!

However, the population of Feltham is only 150 people. And is it possible to build such Autonomous energy infrastructure in the whole of Germany, only time will tell.
