The implant is designed to reduce pressure

German scientists have developed a device that reduces blood pressure by sending electrical signals to the brain.

During the preliminary tests, the implant has lowered blood pressure in rats by 30%, without causing side effects. The new development consists of 24 individual electrodes that are integrated in a miniature cuff.

This element wraps around the vagus nerve. When the sensors, taking cues from the blood vessels are activated, the device receives the signals and sends electrical impulses to the brain.

The prototype device, developed by researchers at the University of Freiburg, tested on five male rats.

Dr. Denis Plahtiy said, " We intend to further develop an implantable sensor, a study of its compatibility with drugs and will test the new product on larger animals."
