However, the German scientists felt that in the market there is still no insulation that would meet the requirements of sustainability and efficiency. New material that meets these requirements was developed by scientists at the Fraunhofer Institute. They have long been engaged in research of properties of wood, its interaction with other components, and eventually invented "foam wood". New insulation is made of natural wood and gas. In the first stage the wood is carefully milled until a viscous and slimy solution. After some time in the formed solution is injected a gas which reacts with the wood, turns the slime into a kind of foam. Studies of the solidified material showed that it is safe for human health. Moreover, the new material does not miss the heat, it meets all building codes, which are installed for thermal insulation.The industry can produce this material in two major combinations: a rigid plate of high density or flexible mats. Among the obvious advantages of this insulation should provide good durability and resistance to moisture penetration. Also, the material is nice elasticity it is able to retain its initial shape after a long period of operation. At the moment employees of the Fraunhofer Institute is working on a study of new properties of the invented material, but also to improve existing positive characteristics. However, the sources do not talk about fire safety inventions, and bacteriological resistance. Let's hope that these "growing pains" will be resolved and the new technology will be the greatest development... in Russia, the richest wood and gas country.
