The consortium Battery500 will create cheap and powerful battery

Creating a new, more powerful and cheaper battery for electric cars puzzled not only manufacturers. Recently the White house announced the creation of a consortium Battery500, which will also deal with developments in this area. The white house has created a consortium Battery500 — a multidisciplinary team led by the National laboratory Pacific Northwest U.S. Department of energy. His objective was to reduce the production cost of a battery for vehicles.

The consortium will receive annual funding of up to $10 million over five years. The researchers aim to triple the efficiency of today's batteries for electric vehicles. This should make the battery easier, less expensive and more accessible.

According to M. Stanley Whittingham, a chemistry Professor at the University of Binghamton, they will try to make the battery as powerful as possible. It will be smaller and much cheaper than modern analogues. The consortium includes some of the most talented scientists, and Whittingham is looking forward to work on new lithium battery that will make electric cars more affordable.

The consortium includes Battery500 national laboratory Pacific Northwest national laboratory Brookhaven national laboratory Idaho national acceleration laboratory SLAC, Stanford University, University of California, San Diego, the University of Texas at Austin, University of Washington, IBM and Tesla Motors as members of the Advisory Board.

The researchers also welcome any ideas from the outside. They believe that the diversity of experiences and opinions often leads to better results. published
