Lenticular clouds

Lenticular (lens-shaped) clouds - one of the most beautiful and quite rare. The main feature of these clouds is that they remain motionless, even in strong winds. Typically, these clouds appear on the lee side of ridges, with the ridges and peaks of the individual at the height of from 2 to 15 kilometers.

These unusual clouds formed on the crests of the waves of air or air between the two layers. The flow of air, zipping over the earth's surface, flows around obstacles, and thus formed the air waves.

The wave flows is a continuous process of condensation of water vapor when the height of the dew point and evaporation during the downward motion of the air. Because of this, the clouds and do not change their position in space.

The emergence of lenticular clouds suggests strong horizontal air flows in the atmosphere and high moisture content. In turn, this is due to atmospheric front approaches.
