The scientist has been nominated 81 times the Nobel Prize, and never received it

The most unlucky fizik

Arnold Sommerfeld was a theoretical physicist and scientific leader of the four physicists who received the Nobel Prize in physics, as well as two other specialty scientists, who also received the award. Sommerfeld himself was nominated for the Nobel Prize 81 times.

Perhaps the fact that often Sommerfeld became the nominee at the same time with such great scientists as Max Planck, Albert Einstein, Niels Bohr, and James Franck. There is evidence that Sommerfeld took his defeat quite close to my heart. In his notes the scientist noted that it is only fair to honor its awards in 1923, immediately after the prize was awarded to Niels Bohr.

Over time, all the work of Sommerfeld attracted less interest, in particular, in those years, he worked on the development of the Bohr model of the atom. In addition, the style and methodology of his works have often been criticized by one of the members of the Nobel Committee, Professor of Physics of Charles Oseen that was one of the reasons for the refusal.

Despite its hard work, Sommerfeld had not proved the winner and died without having received the Nobel Prize.
