A total of 60 light-years away can be more than 2,000 planets suitable for life

Scientists continue to search for a new humanity dom

In our galaxy, the length of which is about one hundred thousand light-years, may be about 40 billion planets. This is the approximate number of deriving from our current knowledge of the 1049 planets orbiting other stars, as well as two more thousands of potential candidates for follow-up.

About a dozen of the 1,049 known planets of our observations may be suitable for life - at least, that such a life, what we know. According infographics Randall Munroe, in 60 light years from Earth may be more two thousand such planets.

All of these planets are theoretically habitable zone - the region around a star where the temperature is ideal for the appearance on the surface of liquid water, and thus the origin and maintenance of life. Munro used existing data to create a visual scheme to represent the number and size of potentially habitable planets.

The land is located in the center to give an idea of the scale and size of all the other planets - approximate. Did alien life is not so far away as we think.

These conclusions were based on a statistical analysis of observations made Space Telescope "Kepler": the device did 150 pictures of thousands of stars every 30 minutes for four years. Then the images were analyzed for small regular spots on the background starlight. The presence of such spots - a sure sign of a planet orbiting the star. Some of the stars of the temperature correspond to the sun or have been a little cooler - around the world revealed as many as 602.

Ten of them were similar to the Earth, that is, were about the same size and rotated from its star at about the same distance as the Earth is from the sun. And, according to estimates, around 22% of Sun-like stars in our galaxy can be rotated habitable planets.
