The collapse of the "Essex»
In 1820, the whaler "Essex" surf the South Pacific, the sperm whale attacked. The vessel was holed and the ship sank. Jose Salvador Alvarenga
In December 2012 boat fisherman Jose Salvador Alvarenga got in a heavy storm. Jose, along with 15-year-old son of his friend killed in the open ocean. The body of the young man could not stand the menu, and 4 months later he died. Jose boat drifted for a long time in the ocean, until he came to the shore - a vessel issued to the Marshall Islands. Locals took José to the capital, where he was sent home to Mexico. After the return of Jose partially lost his memory, and a number of issues related to its survival, and remains unanswered.



Aron Ralston
In May 2003, during the passage of the canyon Blue John in Canyonlands National Park, Utah Aron got caught under a boulder hand. Once finished the last reserves of food and water, Aaron faced a choice: to live or die. Out of the trap can be only one way - cut off his right hand portion above the wrist. With traumatic shock and the risk of severe blood loss climber wandered in the desert until he met tourists from the Netherlands.

Mauro Prosperi
While passing through the Sahara "Marathon in the sands" in 1994, Italian police Mauro Prosperi lost his way and wandered in the wilderness. When he ran out of water, he decided to commit suicide by cutting his wrists. But due to lack of water in the body the blood was too thick and quickly curled. Apparently, considering it as a sign Mauro found the strength to continue their journey. After 5 days, his family found nomads.
To survive, a marathon runner drinking urine and blood of bats, which he found in a Muslim shrine. In total, Mauro spent in the desert 9 days. During his wanderings he had lost 18 kg.



Norman Ollestad

After 30 years, Norman wrote the book "Crazy from the storm", in which he told in detail about the events of those days and how he managed to survive.



Ricky Mega
In 2001, Australian farmers have found a man who looked more like a skeleton covered with skin. For several days he wandered in search of people, yet in the end decided not to stop. He built a hut in which he lived the next 3 months, feeding on grasshoppers, leeches and frogs.



Steven Callahan
In the autumn of 1981, in a self-built boat Steven was in a severe storm. Raging elements deprived of his boat, and Stephen was adrift in a raft of less than 2 meters. With the sunken boat he could grab a sleeping bag, emergency kit, apparatus for the production of drinking water and the management Dougal Robertson survival at sea. Unplanned "cruise" lasted 76 days, until April 20, 1982 issued a raft to the island of Marie Galante, where Stephen discovered fishermen.
