Dead wood in Kamchatka

Dead forest - land, located near the North and South breakthroughs Tolbachik crack.

The Kamchatka Peninsula - one of the most remote and therefore rather mysterious places in Russia with a special atmosphere and almost untouched nature. This northern region is not quite comfortable to stay, because there are frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. However, on the Kamchatka Peninsula has many attractions that beckon restless travelers and tourists, and one of them - a mysterious and terrifying territory under the appropriately named "Dead Forest».

Its present a frightening view of the area acquired as a result of a large crack Tolbachik volcano eruption, which began in 1975. The volcano did not calm down and a half years, during which time some of the taiga was literally burned by the hot lava. But there were areas that were not affected by lava, but were completely covered with ash and slag.

Multimeter layer of volcanic dust hid while a large part of the forest, and all the vegetation was lost because of its abrasive action from the outside. From earlier buyavshih green trees after the eruption were mortified only black skeletons, and the area had an eloquent name "Dead Forest».

The landscape here is really shocking: a desert area with bare trees, remnants of the freakish form on a background of hills Kamchatka looks really depressing, but at the same time possesses a certain gloomy appeal. A gray volcanic desert, which ends with the forest leads to the association with the cosmic landscapes. The specificity of the area accompanied by the fact that in Soviet times there even was organized by the so-called "base Lunohodchik": in this range, scientists conducted tests rovers and lunar rovers.

Despite the past decade after the memorable eruption, forest remains as lifeless. But life is, after all, begins to gradually overcome the effects of volcanic activity: the slopes here and there you can see punched out of the slag vegetation, surprise bright emerald moss and red patches of taiga berries.
