Underground city in Yakutia

What can be done with a diamond quarry, whose fame thing of the past? Give him the future by staging in his bowels self-sustaining eco-city of 10 000 inhabitants. With this project was the initiative of the Moscow Architectural Bureau. Interestingly, the idea to build the permafrost underground cities, so as not to heat the outer walls of buildings, frosty air, but rather to use geothermal heat of the Earth, expressed in the USSR in 1950 ...

The idea to build a career in the diamond spent "Mir" fully autonomous city limit seems utopian dreams, only the authors of this concept - employees of the architectural office "Alice" - did not empty language called dreamers. Bureau Chief Nicholas Lyutomsky - an experienced architect, begins in "Mosproject-1».

The idea has prompted student MArchI Elena Tsyrenova - a native of the city of Mirny. She suggested to his supervisor N. Lyutomsky diploma theme: "Tourist Hotel, not far from the edge of the quarry mined diamond world". And though cyclopean hole in the ground in the middle of the permafrost and in fact attracted the attention of tourists, head advised Helen together with architects AB "Alice" participate in the development of the underground city.

If the waste pit at will give the elements, it will not only be useless, but may eventually become dangerous. High walls are fraught with the threat of landslides, and one bat can absorb the surrounding, including built-up, areas. "The main part of the project - says N.Lyutomsky - a huge concrete structure, which will become a sort of 'cap' for the former quarry and it is bursting inside. On top of the pit block the translucent dome, which will be installed solar panels. The climate in Yakutia harsh, but there are many sunny days and batteries can generate about 200 megawatts of electricity, which should provide a more than needs of the future city. In addition, you can use the heat of the Earth. In winter, the air is cooled in the Peace to -60 ° C, but at a depth of less than 150 m (ie below the permafrost) soil temperature above zero, which adds energy efficiency projects. The city offers a space divided into three tiers: the lower - for the cultivation of agricultural products (so-called vertical farms), medium - Parks, purify the air, and the top for the permanent stay of people having a residential function and serves to accommodate administrative and socio-cultural buildings. The total area of the city is 3 million m2, and is able to live up to 10,000 people - tourists, staff and farm workers ».
