The American company Terrafugia conducted the first test of its first development - a flying car called the Transition.
According to the official statement, the new product is certified for use on public roads and can be lifted into the air from any runway, but for the flight the pilot Transition will require a special license. Representatives of the company say that it can be obtained by following courses and flew about 20 hours.
On the ground, Terrafugia Transition is a front wheel drive car, which is driven by a conventional gasoline engine. In the air, the machine uses a 100-horsepower propeller motor Rotax 912S. The conversion of an ordinary car into the plane takes just 30 seconds - during this time the novelty folded wings. Cruising in the air is about 724 kilometers and a top speed - 185 kilometers per hour. On the ground Transition at completely filled tank can drive only 105 kilometers.
Currently Terrafugia Transition is still far from mass production. The companies intend to improve the design and carry out additional tests as a flying car on normal roads and in the air. Then there will be built a new prototype. Nevertheless, developers are already taking pre-orders for Transition. Advance payment is 10 thousand dollars, and the total cost - 194 thousand dollars.
