False memories and experiences that were not

According to the recent studies, the distortion of past events in memory - this is normal, and none of us are immune to false memories.
As a result of several experiments conducted by the Center neurobiological foundations of learning and memory at the University of California at Irvine found that even people with phenomenal, the best on the planet memory, can easily be dominated by a phenomenon called "false memory".
To participate in a series of experiments, the researchers invited twenty people with Hyperthymesia - a very rare ability to remember all the fine details of his biography. Such people can easily say that they ate for breakfast a year ago, which transmit watched on TV last Christmas, or who met on the way to work every day of their working lives.
In one experiment, participants were given a unique memory to see a few small videos - basically, it was the staff, which occurred petty theft or fraud. After that, people were asked to read a few short stories about these subjects, but with some distortion. Then they were asked to restore the sequence of events in initially viewed commercials.

Percentage of errors when playing was surprisingly high - a little lower than that of ordinary people have passed through a similar experiment. Many, even with a phenomenal memory, replaced by true events distorted.

In another experiment, the same people with an excellent memory to tell in detail about the plot, allegedly shown in the news a few months ago (in fact, this story was not). As a result, 20 percent of the subjects "remembered" that watched this story and were even able to add to the story about him a few extra details. Among ordinary people the percentage of those who "remembered" the plot, which has not been proved 29 percent.

Psychologist Elizabeth Loftus in the study of the phenomenon of false memory managed to "awaken" to test the memories of how in his childhood lost their parents in shopping malls, even if nothing like that ever happened to them.

Experts believe that the existence of false memory has no relation to the "bad memory". However, sometimes the simple assumption that "could happen" somehow gradually transformed into human consciousness in the belief that it is "really happened." This man is so believe in their false memories that can remember the smallest details of the event never happened.

This is especially true of objects, contradictory information which comes from different sources.
