Giant diamond

team of US and French astronomers have discovered a planet whose surface is composed mainly of graphite and diamond. All Object twice Zemli.

The planet, named 55 Cancri e, orbits a star that is visible to the naked eye. It is located 40 light-years away in the constellation Raka.

The planet orbits the star is so fast that a year there lasts less than at 18 hours.

Density 55 Cancri e 8 times the density of the Earth. The temperature of the planet's surface reaches 1650 degrees Celsius. According to Oliver Mosisili astronomer from the Institute of Astrophysics and Planetology in Toulouse, a third of the mass of the planet, and the three terrestrial masses, make diamonds. Diamond planets scientists have found before, but this is the first time that such a planet was discovered near the sun-like star.
