American sociologists from Northeastern University in Boston to explain why people are mostly inclined to sympathize with a whipped dog than other adults, reports RIA "Novosti» .

The study was conducted a social survey among 240 young men and women aged 18 to 25 years, students in different universities of Boston. Scientists volunteers gave out fake newspaper articles, which described the beatings-year-old child, a dog, a puppy or an adult. Copies of all messages differed only the names and descriptions of the victim of violence. Upon completion of reading the notes, researchers asked participants to rate the degree of sympathy for the hero of his own story. It was found that the longer the volunteers empathized beaten dogs, children and puppies than adult lyudyam.

Researchers concluded that the main impact on the result is the age of the victim, but not the species. People perceive dogs as "big" puppy or even children - helpless and require care. Presumably, similar laws have to be manifested for other pets.
