Kolmanskop - a ghost town in the Namib Desert
This town is located just ten kilometers from the Atlantic coast and the nearest living areas - Luderitz. The history of the city at the same time interesting, sad and funny.
Today, this place has become a museum city, which was looked after by Namibians themselves. A Kolmanskop history began in 1908 when a railroad Zakaris Levan found small diamonds in the sand. His discovery, a man hurried to share with Augustus Shtauhom. The idea that Zakaris found this diamond mine, just a few years has turned this area into a neat classic German city. However, as it turned out, the living conditions here were literally incompatible with life, because of the constant sandstorms and lack of water. And diamonds are not there at all. So the city and has been completely abandoned, and eventually entered the sand.
