"Blood Falls" (3 photos)

Explorers discovered the unusual ice waterfalls, painted in blood red, in 1911. In the middle of the last century, scientists have found that the color of the flow of ice attached therein iron, which, apparently, comes out of the ancient lake of salt water, formed when the valley McMurdo Dry Valleys, completely devoid of any complex life forms, were flooded with sea water. Investigation of the waterfall, allowed scientists to detect traces of microorganisms-lived millions of years under the ice sheet without sunlight.
