What was style in the 90s and why the world's designers still take inspiration from that era

The phenomenon that has become entrenched in our minds as the dashing nineties is a thermonuclear mix of trends from which many designers still draw inspiration. For Western and American culture, they became a symbol of freedom, and in the post-Soviet space – a real rebellion against the squalid gray and brown shades of the past era. You bet! The fall of the Iron Curtain, the influence of previously unknown overseas brands, the abundance of tastes and colors just turned their heads, giving rise to bold and sometimes insane decisions.

Now, looking at film photos, one can only be amazed: and so walked on the street? Sure! Moreover, it was this thermonuclear blend of styles that gave rise to our everyday casual and streetwear. Once again, parties and photo shoots in the style of the legendary nineties are gaining immense popularity. So let's remember what it was like.

In design circles, the era of the 90s as an explosive substance, which pros occasionally add to their new collections to give them a nostalgic pepper. If you look at some photos of celebrity, it becomes clear that in the form in which it was, this fashion will never return.

A lot of plastic, a lot of gloss, screaming makeup and unprecedented size garments. This is the period when designers shift their attention from interesting styles to a complex image. Now "bows" are made taking into account the color type, hairstyle, tan, jewelry and other accessories. But sometimes it seems that the stars of that time just opened the closets and put on the first things that fell out.

Only then it seemed possible to wear skirts with jeans, to combine two different pink shades not because they complement each other, but simply because they are pink. In fashion there were continuous extremes: if earrings, then large, if you wear makeup, then brunette, blonde or red, if jeans - put on studs, if the dress - wear sneakers.

And in the CIS countries, this spirit of freedom of choice of color palette and accessories turned into a real fashion tsunami, which washed away from the shelves of strict costumes and restrained palettes. The jeans deserve special attention. If in the United States it was the clothes of builders and farmers, then we had an imported product for the very first fashionistas. Particularly popular were indestructible torn jeans and jeans-varenki. They turned out to be so eternal that some of them still circulate in “seconds”.

The love for torn jeans among us, Europeans and Americans was approximately on the same level.

Special attention should burst into fashion magazine prints. T-shirts with English inscriptions of all colors and sizes, which were combined with glamorous shoes. Hawaiian shirts, as they are now called. And completely insane geometric shapes, colorful patterns, flowers, trees, animals, whatever. Look in your mom's locker. Perhaps what now seems like a grandmother's sweatshirt, used to be valued for its weight in gold.

At the same time, for all such unusually colored things, there was an unspoken rule: they are a priori combined with everything. With jeans and skirts, pants and shorts, sportswear, anything!

Bright leggings and tights Eastern Europe went down in history as the territory of the most colorful legs of that time. It was popular everywhere, but especially here. Elk with shorts, skirts, bodyies, with sports jackets and strict jackets. From the abundance of colors in passers-by sometimes could ripple in the eyes.

If you have a goal to go to a party in the style of the nineties, feel free to wear yellow, blue or red tights under short denim shorts. For the completeness of the image, do not forget to find an old sports jacket (worksman), as well as collect hair in a high tuft or horse tail. You can also spend a little more time and make the famous naches from the dashing nineties or limit yourself to modest corrugation. This is the dashing nineties!

Accents and accessories One clothes here is not limited, and the dashing nineties are called for a reason. In them there is a romanticization of banditry, life by concepts. Therefore, the fashion includes tattoos (not tattoos, namely tattoos). Girls usually chose simple sketches of butterflies, cats and birds.

In addition, piercing is no longer considered something shameful, but becomes an important attribute of the rebel. In step with this era also flares up another - the era of punks and rockers, so belts and massive chains are also in high esteem. But the girls chose less flashy metal jewelry. For example, earrings-rings were every self-respecting fashionista.

Now in some vintage stores you can find already slightly dilapidated belts of unprecedented latitude. They are often embroidered with beads, sequins, metal elements. You can easily guess that most of them are homemade and now have some value. In European second-hand after them is a real hunt.

Do not forget about plastic in all colors and shapes. Perhaps most of all from those times remembered huge size earrings, rings and necklaces. Which often simply climbed on each other, creating the effect of negligence, heaping and variegated. This was especially true of bracelets of all colors of the rainbow, which were the most common rings. Now such jewelry can be found only in children's shops.

In the world of men’s fashion, everything was much calmer. Compared to their companions in screaming outfits, men only became freer in the choice of shirts and changed trousers to comfortable and more practical jeans. Jeans and lacquered shoes were an attribute of that time. This applies to the middle and upper class. By the way, the upper class, which was represented by the overwhelming majority of bandits.

Their companions did not descend to plastic and multicolored leggings. Post-Soviet women affluent Americans called Slavic bimbo for their indomitable love of furs. Fur coats, fur hats, fur clutches and collars - all in fur! And, of course, jewelry on each finger. In Europe, the combination of gold and silver in such quantities was considered moveton, but our women did not stop.

The era has passed, but left such a bright mark that some trends are already beginning to return to everyday life. A few years ago, clawed jeans and pants came into fashion again. And collected huge cash registers Barbie not only reminded of the dashing nineties, but also returned to the shelves bulky plastic jewelry. Torn jeans, it seems, never went out of fashion. Who knows, maybe soon we will all be in line for colorful tights. What do you think?
